Religious ethos and chaplaincy
Bearwood College is a Church of England foundation, which also welcomes and respects those of other faiths.
Weekday assemblies play an important part in the religious life of the College with full participation by all pupils and staff. There is a weekly service of Evening Prayer for all pupils and staff, at which parents are welcome. There is also a termly Eucharist and monthly Holy Communion from the reserved sacrament.
Encouragement is given to pupils to attend confirmation classes in order that they may understand the Christian faith and become full communicant members of their home churches.
Bearwood College boasts a beautiful chapel with a fine acoustic and magnificent organ, but more important than the buildings is the Christian ethos which spreads throughout the whole College.
Chaplain: Stuart King BSc QTS AMinstP MIET FRAS (lay)
The chaplain's role within the school is to provide worship, pastoral care and Christian nurture. Whilst the chaplain represents the Anglican tradition, he acts as a teacher to the whole community.
There are regular times when pupils or staff are able to see him and they are able to arrange meetings outside these set times whenever this would be helpful.
He leads the liturgical and public devotional life of the college, which includes: Start of Term Services, Carol Services and Remembrance Day Services.
The chaplain has responsibility for Christian nurture and formation within the College. Confirmation classes are run, leading up to a confirmation service in the Summer Term.
The Bishop of Reading is the Bearwood College visitor.
