Change of name for Old Royals Association

As from 1st January 2010 the Old Royals Association changes its name to the Bearwood Old Royals Association (BORA). Miss Charlotte Penrose is President and please check out our website at www.oldroyals.org.uk and click on ‘Members Area’ to access the secure pages.

Sponsorship News

The Bearwood Old Royals’ Association, the organisation representing the Alumni and former members of staff, was approached by the Headmaster and asked if they would consider providing sponsorship for the ASTO (the Association of Sail Training Organisations). The Committee agreed to fund this very worthwhile cause and please check out our website at www.oldroyals.org.uk for further information. In 2009 we also sponsored the U6 Leavers Book together with the trip to Grenada last summer.

1960’s Scholar Reunion

The long anticipated 1960’s reunion held in September 09. Forty Old Royals and partners arrived for social mingling followed by Chapel Service conducted by Ron Foster. Didn’t that just roll back the years? Even the slight faux pas when Ron announced the hymn and none of us could find it in the book! More social mingling, and group photographs followed the service before a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon John Hann opened the archives and Keith Lovell, a current teacher, conducted tours to the upper reaches of the mansion. Then it was time for a rest before returning in the evening, all dressed to the nines for drinks followed by a formal dinner in the Picture Gallery, known to all of us as the Assembly Hall. During the meal the Headmaster, Mr. Stephen Aiano, entertained us with a short talk about the school as it is now. At the end of the meal we retired to the Billiard Room, known to us as the Combined Prefects Room, for coffee and were entertained by joint host John Shield.
