Athletics Sports Day at Bearwood

Despite the forecast from the Met Office of showers the weather stayed fair and provided good temperatures for athletic performances.

The girls contest was dominated by Grenville whose clean sweep of all the events, in both Junior and senior categories, was only interrupted by Lana Oystrakh’s performance in the Senior Girls Long Jump. Stand out performances came from Loren Cardy who won three events in the juniors and set two new College records. In the Seniors, Georgina Hall was the Vitrix Lodorum winning the 100m, Javelin and Shot Put despite suffering a long term shoulder injury.

The Boys competition was far more closely contested with both the Junior and Senior events going down to the relay races. As it turned out, Nelson pipped Raleigh in both the Categories with the Seniors being extremely close with a winning margin of only 5pts. Raleigh themselves were only two points ahead of a strong Blake team who were anchored by the Victor Ludorum, Matthew Dunn. Matthew had only returned from playing against Bangladesh the previous evening for Surrey 1st XI, where he picked up three wickets.

He was pushed hard to the trophy by Tristan Coles who had wins in the Triple Jump and 100m. It was however Dunn’s final leg in the 4 x 100m relay that earned him the award.

The newly inaugurated Junior B track event was also won by Nelson and it is set to continue to involve more pupils on the day.

Overall an excellent day for all the competitors and thanks must go to Mr Myles, the grounds-staff and The Maintenance Team who prepared the event so well.
