Independent Discovery
At present, the 0-2 years and 2-3 years units follow the Birth to Three Matters framework; children aged 3-5 in the Foundation Stage Unit, follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum Guidance. From September 2008 this will change and the whole nursery will be following the new Early Years Foundation programme which will support all our children from 3 months to 5 years old inclusive.
Throughout the nursery, emphasis is put on independent learning. A 'whole person' approach to education is used - learning through exploration, experimentation and active engagement in an activity.
From the age of 3 all areas of learning are addressed: language and literacy, mathematical development, knowledge and understanding of the world, creative development, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. There is a particularly strong emphasis on the development of all literacy skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Adults work to support and extend children's learning, planning activities that reflect the children's particular interests and develop their skills and abilities.
