Starting Full Time Education Children start formal schooling at Key Stage 1 when they are five.

Term of Starting Children are required to start schooling in the term after they are five, as follows:

Month of Birth Child reaches statutory school age:
September, October , November, December On 1 January, i.e. for the Spring Term
January, February, March On 1 April, i.e. for the Summer Term
April, May, June, July, August On 1 September, i.e. for the Autumn Term

‘Rising Fives’ children are permitted to start formal schooling at Bearwood Pre-Prep School in the full term before they are five, i.e. as a ‘Rising Five’, as follows:

Child's fifth birthday Child reaches statutory school age: Child may start School as a ‘Rising Five’:
September, October, November, December and up to the start of the Spring Term in January 1 January In September, i.e. for the Autumn term
January , February, March and up to the start of the Summer Term in April 1 April In January, i.e. for the Spring term 2007
April, May, June, July, August and up to the start of the Autumn Term in September 1 September In September, i.e. for the Autumn Term

Please note that it is not mandatory for the child to move in to the Pre-Prep School as a ‘Rising Five’. It is your choice and you will asked to indicate your preference prior to Registration.
