Pastoral Care

The House System

The Prep School operates a House System. This provides a structure for personalised pastoral care and ensures a comfortable yet competitive social environment in which games and many activities thrive. The two Prep School Houses, Beatty and Hood, are a focus of loyalty and companionship for their members.

Each House has a team of tutors and is supported by a skilled and dedicated group of ancillary staff, including the Chaplain, medical staff and matrons. The medical department, run by qualified nursing staff from the fully equipped medical centre, provides professional advice and care, with a comprehensive emergency procedure in case of more serious problems.

Religion

The school is a Church of England foundation. Ours is a Christian ethos, and we welcome and respect those of other faiths. Weekday assemblies and chapel services play an important part in the religious life of the Prep School with full participation by pupils and staff. Religious education provides exposure to other faiths within the curriculum.

Day Pupils

The shape of the day varies as pupils progress through the school, accommodating your child’s increasing attention span and energy levels. Years 3-6 start the day at 8.30am and continue until 3.30pm. Children can be collected at 3.30pm or may prefer to stay for tea, the supervised activity programme and after school care, with collection between 5pm and 6pm.

Meals

We provide wholesome cooked meals three times each day to boarders and at lunchtime to day pupils. We are committed to providing healthy food and encouraging in our pupils a lifelong interest in nutrition. Special dietary requirements are catered for.

Bearwood Parents’ Association
