Chess
Chess is the oldest tactical game in the world, a game with no chance involved at all, a game accessible to the most amateur novice to proto grand masters.
As well as learning a game that will take the rest of your life to master, chess promotes concentration, logic, intuition, tactics and spatial awareness – as well, of course, as learning how to lose gracefully.
The Bearwood College chess club has traditionally welcomed members of all ages and abilities and most players will find someone of a similar ability to challenge them. Should they have surpassed all of their peers then there is always a member of staff on hand to give them a challenge. The climax of the chess year is the house chess competition – played in the theatre in front of live audience with the action up on the big screen.
