Hovercrafting
Hovercrafting teaches the skills of fabrication and engineering (building the craft out of fibreglass and metal), mechanics (keeping the craft running) and driving.
The racing is undertaken within the Hovercraft Club of Great Britain’s National Race Series, while the practice is on site during activities and at off site venues during Summer weekends. These can include international locations and the College team have raced in France and Germany as well as across the UK.
Hovercrafting has practical advantages for those scholars who want to pursue a career in engineering as well as teaching the right balance between the thrills of high speed racing and the need for safety. Teamwork and social skills are fostered particularly on the away meetings where the Hovercraft crew have to get on together as well as represent the finest traditions of the College and enhance the public image of Bearwood. Many scholars have carried on with the sport into adult life.
