Sailing
Sailing is a scholar’s chance to experience the adrenaline filled sport of competitive dinghy sailing. The skills of boat rigging, sailing techniques, racing tactics and water safety are all learnt during the sailing sessions. We race against each other on the Colleges own 47 acre lake, we have matches against other organisations and we are a certified RYA training centre.
Scholars can gain internationally recognised qualifications in Dinghy Sailing, Powerboating and Yachting.
Our heritage and links with the Merchant Navy give us a unique opportunity to explore the skills of boat handling, seamanship and the understanding of the nautical world.
Sailing takes place on the Bearwood Lake on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Winter and on most days in the Summer term. The staff are all qualified to teach sailing or run the safety craft. There are also scholars who are qualified instructors.
